Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Nice full E horridus showing beautiful color Al!  I like that sclavoi too, just put one in the ground at my place this summer.  I am not familiar with the E. shajessi, looks like it would get to be a large cycad.

Thanks Joseph.  It may be nice but it's not fun trying to keep the weeds out from under it.

I love the leaflets on this plant, both the shape and insertion.  While mine has not flushed yet in my garden to confirm, it is supposed to flush with a little color as opposed to straight green.  Next spring summer I hope to confirm.
