Does anyone (besides me) think this Coccothrinax could be inaguensis? I grew this palm from seed many, many, yrs ago. Seed came from Bahamas labeled as C. argentata.

This palm looks nothing like my C. argentata's, yet to me, fits the description of C. inaguensis. It's leaves hang in an inverted umbrella fashion, and the leaf sheaths are super long, like no other. Also, the color is more of a dusty green, top and bottomSeeds are tiny in comparison as well.

Ignore the black in first two photos, it has ants or sooty mold. In last two photos, it is slightly tattered from the recent Hurricane.

Inaguensis has no silver on the abaxial side of the leaf. It is one of the few coccos with no silver. It looks like your palm does... Maybe it's an inaguensis/argentata hybrid?

Thanks, Andrew, that actually makes a lot of sense. I've always considered it could be a hybrid, but it never had that hybrid vigor.  I noticed it is silvery underneath, but not the 'super silver' of the C. argentata. The top of the leaf is not like any other Coccothrinax in the yard. It's a very dull green. I think I'll plant some seeds this year. ;)

Palmpedia's description of Inaguensis is   "The leaves are generally very stiff, with umbrella-shaped leaf blades which are shiny green above and silvery below. "

Our one labeled 'Inaguensis' is silvery underneath like that, maybe the silver is variable.

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.
