Here is a modified version of Sabal Steve's thread about your favorite palm. This may hopefully be a bit like the grade school thing where all your classmates write down what they like about you and you get to keep it. (Steve gets at least 50% credit.. see? it's easy) Lol. BUT, the idea is to post a pic and description of a favorite palm in the yard of SOMEONE ELSE. I would say there can be repeats and also If the persons palm has not been seen "worldwide" as it were (I.E. on a tour, already posted, etc.) Please ask the owner if you are not sure before posting. You can mention or post the one you always want to know how it's doing, is it growing, is it seeding, did it take the cold well? In short, your favorite because you want one too!

Maybe you can call out the owner to post a pic of your favorite palm of theirs as maybe they have a really great, or updated pic.

I will start with a couple..

Matt P. in San Diego and his Dypsis malcomberi

20130806_181458.thumb.jpg.30b6e824166e2d

Mardy Dariens monster Ravenea... robustior? There was still no trunk and pushing 15+ spears as big as your calf..

20140520_160527.thumb.jpg.8b1e448c5db111

Ok, Go for it!!

Mardy's R. robustior was awesome, & Matt P.s Ravenea "giant" is also looking really good.

Actually it's Matt's Dypsis malcomberi. You Sir, Dr Bret. I challenge you to post a pic of your stellar Beccariophoenix fenestralis, my favorite palm from your yard! (That's how this thread is supposed to work...) I know at least Kim and Pando will have pix from someone elses yard.

It's tough to choose a single favorite. There are so many characteristics on different palms that they are all favorites in their own way.

Starting with Len's yard:

Dypsis sp. Big Red looks incredible:

LVYxKYT.jpg

His Beccariophoenix alfredii is the largest one anywhere around here:

hIBRjv9.jpg

His Dypsis oropedionis is stunning:

HOrwAqL.jpg

The Dypsis canaliculata is already turning to be a monster.

and of course that Copernicia fallaensis:

Hahaha, Thanks for saving me some posting legwork regarding Len's yard Ando! (But my favorite from there is still the source of his avatar).

At this point Ando, having not been to your place yet, I suspect my favorite would be your Dypsis maroensetra. Post your favorite pic(s) of it, please!

Thanks Bill, here you go. This is when it was about eye level in July 2015 in a perfect height for this picture. It's now way overhead, need a ladder to take a similar picture.

This is how it looked yesterday. In fact, in the picture above I'm holding the leaf that's below in the lower left corner, almost ready to fall off now.

One of the most amazing and beautiful palms I've ever seen. Charman Akina garden, just north of Hilo.

Licuala peltata sumawongii.

Even better, Charmin gave many of us seedlings of this spectacular palm and they are happily growing in many Hawaiian gardens.

Socratea exhorriza in the garden of Charmin Akina, north of Hilo, Hawaii.  I recently planted a 1-gal. size of this palm in my garden. First the base, then the crown...
