Thanks for sharing. They look great. I wonder if they get extra water other than just a bit of rain. I'm pretty sure they have to be...:hmm:

The more threads I see posted on Cocos, the more obvious they're capable of growing regions beyond the expected.

Cheers, Barrie.

Yes, it is a BIG surprise.  They must keep them very well watered, since that is the only chance they would have there.  I have seen other photos though of them growing along the coastline of the Arabian Peninsula, but like I said, they must be very well watered there, because the annual rainfall isn't nearly close enough to support coconut palm growth.  They are planted at Cabo San Lucas at the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico, which is a very arid dessert climate, but the photos of the ones there do not look nearly as good as the above photos from Oman, so that tells me the ones in the Cabo San Lucas area aren't adequately watered.

Especially the western Arabian peninsula coconuts are incredibly delicious, the red sea conditions are good for them.

In the Arabian peninsula; In both east, west and south (Salalah Oman), coconut palms are irrigated with unprocessed seawater only.

Pure and untreated sea water. Yes indeed, they are irrigated with sea water, and they give it constantly, they are a real halophyte. I witnessed that sea water is an elixir for them.

Tall coconut palms species are common, new afforestations are being spread.
