I think I already know the answer to this, but has anyone tried one of these outdoors in SoCal? If so, how long did it last?

Tried and failed......really not surprised however.

Never tried one. From what I know, it is much too cold sensitive for my microclimate. I have kept Areca Triandra growing well in a pot outdoors for 15 years. I believe Triandra has a much better chance in So Cal.

Agree Brett. 15 years is some accomplishment here in the OC.

Well done!

Thanks, Jim. I have contemplated planting it out. It has been growing in lava rock all this time, probably a 15 gallon plant from Hawaii,  and I am afraid it will croak if I plant it in my heavier clay loam:( so I will probably keep it in it's pot.

Very impressive, Brett. I'm trying to decide what to do with mine. I brought it in two nights ago as we dipped into the low 40s. It's been fine so far, but not sure.

Greenhouse palm here in So Cal, except maybe in far far south San Diego county.

How do I know?

I'm experienced, alas. From the top and bottom of the sea.

This species is too cold sensitive for me most of the time. It loves my summers but winters are deadly long term. It is likely cool-sensitive as well: your chilly, rainy winters may overcome it even if a frost/freeze doesn't.
