Hey all, I have way too many potted palms; I thin the herd, & somehow it just gets bigger. Some of them have been patiently growing for years, but I'm not sure what to do with them. Some were backups, some are marginal in my area (but might make a go of it in the right spot), some, I admit I have an emotional attachment to. And some are sloooowwww. Here's a few, feel free to add. In the marginal catagory, where hope rings eternal: Aiphanes minima, 7 years from seed. These are beautiful in the tropics; not so much here. But this ones looking pretty good, although it spots in winter. Next up, a Carpoxylon. These are pretty tough actually & might be planted this spring. 4 years from a seedling. Finally, my beloved 9 year old Adonidia from seed collected on a wonderful family vacation.

At first I thought this was an ad. :D I'm buying...lol Let me know if you need more help clearing out.. ;) 

 

That Carpoxylon looks nice! 

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

BTW.. as you know 25% of my stuff has been in a pot 6+ years.. :P

Next up the slow ones. Coco thrinax ekmannii, 5 years from a blade of grass. And the slowest I know of; Dypsis leucomalla. One leaf a year..

Well Bill, you've been posting for at least a dozen years. And I thought everything you were growing was in pots. So I learn from the master!
