Just stellar palms and their scale is perfect. Been one of my favorites for a couple of days anyway.

Always tidy, clean, and colorful. Not particularly rare, but particularly beautiful.

There is a water bottle for scale in one of the photos.

I  still have not a single one of these! Maybe 2017 will be the year? They are just magnificent Tim!

I remembered seeing a group in Nong Nooch, Thailand at the 2010 IPS Biennial that was magical too.

Anything anyone can tell me about growing them that is different from other Pinangas which seem to love it in PR?

So far this species takes a look at me and that's it, they die within a month or two. Of course the biggest one I have ever gotten to try was in a four inch pot, but same with my other easy to grow Pinangas....

Two very handsome palms indeed.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!
