Let's share palm-progression pics

I was going through some old pictures on my photobucket accounts and thought it would be fun to share some before & now pictures of palmy landscapes. I use to take pictures periodically to help me track growth, but I stopped at some point. I really think I should pick this back up though.

Anyway, this should be a fun thread to see what some of our palmy creations have turned into over time! Go ahead and share some of yours!

This was my first landscape project in Chowchilla, CA. My parents were gracious enough to let me experiment with their front yard. This is from summer 2003.

Kennedy.thumb.jpg.0acc920f1917976148af3b

This was summer of 2008, when the palm bug bit me. We planted queens, and a majesty palm.

586d480617982_Kennedy08.thumb.jpg.e84c20

This is the ravenea rivularis from Summer 2011. Unfortunately, my parents decided to move this palm in the fall of 2015 and it didn't take the move well at all. It lost all of it's fronds, then sulked through winter 2015, and the spear finally pulled in summer 2016.

586d4856e5ef8_kennedy01.thumb.jpg.f33d81

Lastly, this is a picture from this past New Year's weekend. The Butia was added sometime after 2008 - possibly in 2009 or so. AND of course, now that the queens are high up, I had to plant something to take up the empty space beneath! I planted a beccariophoenix alfredii and a butyagrus nabonnandii (not pictured). The beccariophoenix is just the right of the large agave in the middle, and the mule palm is to the right of that, along the property line.

May 2013 Dypsis pembana along a new wall which replaced a fence. That same wall in December 2016 with the Dypsis pembana, the aloes and Cycas thouarsii.  Two different angles, but the change is still easy to identify.

Actually, you hit them on the head.  Pretty impressive since there is not even half of the dactylifera showing!  The Roebi's were bought from a big box store, the dacty's were seed grown.

If you want a better view of some of the plants, I have a few close up pics here:

Day 2 of my remodel in October 2013 with the Kentiopsis oliviformis to the left which was planted in late 2010.  Also in the distance against the fence on the far side a Burretiokentia hapala and Dypsis pembana which were also planted late in 2010.  The second photo is now in 2017 from a similar perspective, with only The K.o. visible from the previous shot.  The B hapala and D pembana survived the construction, but just aren't visible yet.... eventually I hope they will be seen over the top of my roof from the back :D

This is my latest project. I started with this in 2012. We removed all of the shrubbery. The lawn was removed in sections during 2013 and 2014. The ash tree on the left was removed this past summer 2016 to make room for... you guessed it! Palms! I have a 1-gallon beccariophoenix in it's place now.

These are pictures from summer 2016. Since then, the hopseed bushes were removed - they were only put there to give vertical interest while other plants filled in.

And this is a side of the side yard where we have our dog run. See if you can spot a small caryota mitis :)

Same timeline, with the poor little Burretiokentia hapala and Dypsis pembana which were getting beat up during the construction in 10/2013, and now looking from my front porch in 1/2017.  The Dypsis lanceolata was there in 2013, but just out of the frame, to the left of the Burretiokentia.  The lanceolata has been the slowest of the three.20131026-IMG_7556.thumb.jpg.6deab5d7c0fc20170105-104A4975.thumb.jpg.6c7f18ba8f75

The weight of lies will bring you down / And follow you to every town / Cause nothin happens here

as I am very new in palm world, dont expect 10 - 15 years progression, the most noticeable I can offer is my Ravenea rivularis,

planted 13 months ago, from a 200 cm pot from Bunnings... it gets fatter, now its girth is bigger the pot it was in 13 months ago, I water it as much as I can ;)
