A homeowner down the street had something unique looking poking over the fence. One day last year I drove by why he was out so I stopped to ask him about his palms. He started telling me about his queen palms! I said, no, THAT palm! And he told me how he bought it as a small one gal. from a palm nursery in Anaheim several years ago that was going out of business, planted it, and didn't really do all that much to it.

I think it's a D. mahajanga type, but he had no idea. Other than this palm, he has a nice grouping of mature Foxtails which are relatively rare for our area and sago palms, but that's it.

Not a SoCal coconut, but a neat surprise.

Some people just say palm trees are palm trees and don't even bother knowing the species or anything about it.

Here is a Coconut growing in cold Corona, CA which the general consensus here in PT believes it is owned by an unaware person.

Some years back a Cape Coral PTer drove past a vacant for-sale house that featured a fabulous variegated Roystonea regia beside the front walk. He posted photos. He & I speculated on the possibility of digging up the variegated royal and replacing it with a standard palm because we were sure the owner and realtor had no idea what a treasure they had. BTW, we were all talk and no action, so the variegated palm resides there still to the best of my knowledge.
