Burn baby burn - Palm parts in the fireplace

Recommended Posts

One of the benefits of having just barely enough palms is the steady stream of stuff they drop.

Much of it can be burned in the fireplace.

I've not found Palm wood to be a good substitute for dicots or conifers but some parts are good fire starters.

Such as mule palm infructescenses:

You can use them in lieu of lighter fluid in BBQ grill too.

Anyone else use them?

Once I put my palm parts in the fireplace, couldn't use my fingers for a month. Put my boots in too but forgot to take my feet out.

I wonder about soot buildup from using palm wood. Too much soot, chimney fire...bad.

In warm climates fireplaces experience only occasional use, but such occasional use may lead to complacency regarding chimney safety.

I cleaned chimneys as a kid is Sarasota, Florida,  after about two years or so all chimneys cleaned.  Just dryer vents after that (another fire hazard!)

Just wondering.

Anyone else burn palm wood?

I've found, over time, that Archontophoenix and Dypsis lutescens burn well when dried.
