With 1m of trunk, this went directly in the (clayish) ground around May 2016. But something is going wrong. Assuming these are water retaining soil lovers, I am not sure about what is causing this. Any opinions?IMG_9553.thumb.JPG.8d64bd2c1ae18f6a48480

Copernicia loves being in the water but only seasonally in its natural enviroment. So some rot can be another possibility.. Pour in some peroxide to hear eventually some bubbling. You may not see bubbles but the characteristic gurgling sound should be there and perceivable on a quite day, if there is an infection. BTW what fertilizer have you applied?

Thank you Konstantinos for your input!

This is happening since the warm season. Also, no bubbles or gurgling, i have already done it. The fertilizer is locally purchased, not the best one but also not bad.

So, still a mistery <_<

You know Rafael, what it looks to me peculiar? The fact that your clay soil has a good capacity of retaining te and that it is a newly amended soil. How fast had been growing this plant previously?

Perhaps it was planted too deeply?

I know that if you let them dry out they go into a death spiral. :(

If it were in my garden I would say because the winter climate is too cool.  May be that it is simply adjusting and will grow out of it. This could take several years in marginal conditions.  Good luck.

Rafael,

I have one in a large pot of solid clay and it loves it.  I try to never let it dry out.

Maybe it suffered from some dryness, despite the watering sistem. Maybe it is not enough...

I have another one perfectly growing, which withstood untouched the severe cold frame last January. You may be correct saying it is simply adjusting...

Observing the behaviour of the other one my climate does not seem to be marginal to them
