I see RPS has listed Areca catechu Dwarf seeds for sale in its latest price list. Has anyone here tried them? Did they germinate? What %, i.e. how many, of those seedlings turned out to be true dwarf palms? The listing does not provide any clues and I don't want to spend a fortune for typical garden variety Areca catechus. I'm sure other people wonder the same thing. Thanks to all.

There is no way that all the seeds will produce dwarf plants but this is the chance we take with this type of seed. Same with Sabal Lisa and Chamaerops vulcano, only a percentage will come true.

Most will either be regular Areca catechu or Semi-Dwarf Betel Nut, with a few degrees of difference on the latter.

For the price they charge, it can be disappointing, no ?

Do you mean that , for a real good dwarf Areca catechu, the best way would be to buy a plant (like what we can yes on your pictures) and not to hope too much results with seeds?

Meg, unfortunately most seed even from a true dwarf will not turn out dwarf. It is a genetic blip so even the best circumstances yield limited success, hence the price. However, some people do get lucky ^_^
