I recently acquired this cycas cairnsiana. I dug it up and replanted it while it was flushing. It seems to be moving along so far. I accidently cut a couple of the smaller root tubers and  immediately covered with a tree type past. Never done this before but I have heard these can be sensitive during transplanting. Anyone have any experience moving these? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I break roots off sometimes from the seedlings and never have an issue.

That is good to hear. I am not very familiar with all of the Cycas species. I can't wait to see what it looks like once the leaves harden off. I saw one of your posts where you were selling seedlings of this same species and they looked awesome and very blue. I hope mine turns out to be as blue as those. Fingers crossed. I will post pictures once all of the leaves are hardened off.

Looking forward to seeing what it looks like once the flush is complete or maybe the next flush if this one has a little transplant shock.  My understanding of C cairnsiana is that it appreciates heat, but I haven't seen any locally.  I did see Len's hybrid in Vista (C thouarsii x C cairnsiana) and it's a great looking plant!  Yours should appreciate the Escondido heat this week!!!

I will definitely post some pictures once the leaves harden off. It seems to be moving right along since I transplanted it, at least so far. Don't you have a thouarsii x cairnsiana? I thought at some point you posted some kind of thouarsii hybrid that was really cool looking with a blue tint to the leaves. Thought it was that cross.

Hope mine turns out looking like this one. Again perfectly grown. Cycads sure do love your climate. Do you grow encephalartos as well?

Mine are Cycas thouarsii x cupida hybrids.  This is the larger of the two just finishing a flush.  The new flush is still hardening off and developing color in this photo, and the older flush has lost some of the glaucas "sunscreen" which gives it the blue tint.  Its showing a nice keel to the leaves from the cupida side as well as owing its color to the cupida.

Scott your carinsiana looks fantastic.  I'm guessing that the blue Encephalartos don't perform as well down there, as your list of Encephalartos you mentioned seemed to include only the green species.

I really have not tried any. I grow everything I have from seed and I have not been able to acquire seeds from other species.

That is the one I was talking about. Very cool hybrid. Seems to be growing pretty quickly looking at the older leaves.
