I was lucky enough to spend Friday morning with Malcolm at his place in Tokomaru Bay. Beautiful place and he's created a great palm garden there. Sorry about the picture quality, mid winter morning the light is pretty intense and contrast with light and dark made photographs challenging.

It's easy to see where Malcolm's place is

Malcolm has also beautified the coastal strip outside his garden. Wish I had stealth palm-planting neighbours like this!

Looks like he his working out the tread pattern on the verge there... wouldn't want to be them when he finds them!

I get to stay here most Christmas's :P  You can camp down front without hassle.

You could be convinced come summer that you are up in the Pacific tropics.

He would love to have any interested IPS members over for a wonder.

You might need to correct any wrong ID's I made! Can't beat family. Are you the one came visit me at Waimarama years ago?

That would be another brother... shame you missed him, he arrived up there today.

I don't think I can pull you up on anything, my palm knowledge is not a scratch on Mal's. If I could manage to spend more time in Toko that may change B)

Not for the faint of heart! This was a couple of years back and is a very rare occurrence up there.

I'm not aware of him losing anything... the Pacific Ocean is 100m to your right.

Thankfully not that cold on your recent visit eh Bennz ;)

Wonderful garden, thanks :D

But I am lost; it seems we are in Bali, Hawaii, Florida and Switzerland all at the same time !

Is that the magic of New Zealand ?

Florida has almost no photos of snow only because our climate ensures that when it's cold, it's bone dry (air that's traveled from Alberta or Siberia overland, warming a bit as it goes).  That really is kind of close by.

Tropicals that don't mind the slightly cool temperatures seem to look especially good in New Zealand.  I think the all-year moisture and lack of extremes must be helpful.

For a bit of what could be a New Zealand in-joke, I've decided to can the cheap old Agapanthus and replace it with a designer variety from Plant Delights (on sale).

I'm working on an email to the Quartz Museum in Whanganui.  I'd been to the

What a beautiful place in such a spectacular setting.

Had I known of the garden two years  back, I'd have made a detour while in NZ.

I did tour Gordon and Keith's garden in Auckland.......what a fantastic place.

Do you know Who carved the tiki Ben?

If you are asking  about the one carved from the old Washigntonia, that would be Malcolm.

There are a bunch of others around the place, he's pretty handy with his hands. Will try and drag out some photos for you.

He had a couple of big Washy's that had to go recently, he fabricated a mill and has now turned them in to slabs. They will become

new furniture in the house he hopes to build soon.
