Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I was reaching for you BS and thank you. It does look stout and I am sorry for any unintended negative aphorisms. I just wanted to see an update and sometimes a challenge gets attention on the PT Board quicker. Can you estimate it's age? Best and Good Wishes

I have never talked to the owner, PalmGrover and Pohonkelapa and MattyB did? Its in a thread they started.. I'll try to find it, but I would guess 14 years or so from a small pot.

My specimen is very slow growing ( in heavy competition with other palms and trees in my back yard )

This is the best specimen I have seen in cultivation here in Darwin.

I agree, wow! After that thing blooms and seeds, I would hate to see how much it will cost to take it down.

All the Corypha at Fairchild are such a treat see! I saw the big one in the back in bloom a few years ago. Such a sight to behold - one I'll never forget.  How lucky to be there when it offered up its seed! :yay:

I'll bet it would be ten thousand to take it down and haul it away.  Its gonna need a big crane and flatbed plus heavy equipment operator(s).  And it will have to be take down carefull so as not to damage the surrounding dwellings.

Formerly in Gilbert AZ, zone 9a/9b. Now in Palmetto, Florida Zone 9b/10a??

Saw this Corypha in full bloom at Fosters in Honolulu two weeks ago. I chatted with the docent about timing and logistics of the removal. There were billions of tiny flowers all over the place. Pretty impressive.

Remember ( of course ) they grow pretty well here because they are native to the Northern Territory and can handle our extreme Monsoonal climate ie 7 months of rain and 5 months of almost total drought. My specimen is a bit slow due to competition I believe, otherwise it is very healthy. Mature specimens can take the drought periods without too much stress it seems.

So, the Coryphas I'm used to seeing in bloom are sky high. This one is so short, and already in bloom.

Yes, I agree. My guess is this one did not have optimum growing conditions and was stressed.

Update pics of the San Diego/La Jolla one.. I did not get out of my van... The pics make it look smaller I think because I was further away? I assure you it has not shrunk. :)
