Ray Baker and his namesake

Always wanted to show this picture, but have no idea who took it. So hope it is ok. Ray baker toiled endlessly at Lyon Arboretum, it is because of his effort there is one of the greatest palm collections on the planet, amongst other plants. Saw him many times up there, but never said hello to him. Now I wish I had. His namesake can be seen up in our valley, so there is a special connection to Pritchardia bakeri to my family, who has been in the valley for 105 yrs.

much aloha, and thank you to Ray Baker.

Colin, thanks for the awesome photos and that bit of history.

I never had the chance to meet Ray either, as I entered the palm world and moved to Hawaii so recently.

A legend around these parts.
