It is coming on to Tabubia aurea season in Darwin.... a nondescript, dare I say it, even an ugly tree for 10 months of the year, then every late August/ September we are graced with the magnificent yellow flower display. It is a street tree in Darwin and is everywhere......verges, median strips, parks, private gardens.......

These are beautiful.  My grandma has a small tree planted about 7-8 years ago that has started putting on a modest display in the Spring every year.  I believe it has stayed compact due to growing in partial shade.  I am going to be looking for seedlings next year but I'm not sure if I will be able to differentiate them from the thousands of seedlings germinating in the front yard from the two huge purple tabebuia growing nearby.

Leaves, even on seedlings are quite distinct compared to more common species... No serrated "teeth" along the margin, smooth overall surface of leaves on T. aurea, and each leaf is more of a elongated oval in shape compared to the commonly planted tabs.. Foliage is a unique, bluish green as well..  Had a nice specimen planted next to a bank a block away from the house in Bradenton.
