This puppy is for sale for 15 Dollars and I would like to know what it is. They tell me that it is an areca palm which to my mind is a dydsis lutescens, which I have already, HOWEVER mine look different. Maybe just because the one for sale is very mature and mine are still rather young???

What think you? Is ia a d. lutescens??

Yes, it appears to be a Dypsis lutescens being tortured in a small dry pot. Maybe you can nurse it back to health?

Yep, looks like a golden cane, they are paying you $15 to take it away, right?

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.

No, They want 15 bucks and since it is a poor tortured duplicate, I'll let someone else be its savior

Thanks

I would say that the palm surely is worth 15 dollars. It is tall and has good new spears, so, why not give it a try! With a bit of love and care, it will do well.

Do it! it's definitely a Dypsis Lutescens. Take good care of it and it'll flourish!  Btw, looks really thirsty.

I would probably throw 15 bucks at it to have a trunking, clumping, Dypsis.  With care it will become beautiful. Do it!

I am retired and living on a pension of 1000 a month, so every penny counts and I already have a lovely, though young, stand of these beauties.

Yours is very good looking. I can imagine living on a very tight fixed income makes plant acquisition difficult as well as perhaps a little more thought out.

I just know that If I was presented with the sale, I would probably take it.  I have also been known to take in rescues.  The two that I have, I bought as 6 foot tall 5 gallons for 20 bucks each.  My wife wishes we would have bought many more.

Actually, the majority of my plants ARE rescues as that is the only way that I can afford many of them. I unfortunately like cycads and palms which are amongst the most expensive plants that you can find, hence I carefully seek out distressed, reduced price plants to add to my collection. Though I would love to add this distressed puppy to my healthy happy family, I can better spend the 15 bucks on something that I don't already have. Someone will rescue this one eventually, I hope.

They finally offered i to me for the price of the pot (12.50) and even delivered it. The pot was totally packed with roots so tightly bound that I couldn't pull them apart so I took a machete to them to remove he bottom spiral, There was no dirt whatsoever in the pot.

Hope it likes it's new digs
