Aloe id

With the growing yard for a local nursery losing their lease, they let go of a bunch of stuff cheap so they didn't have to move it to their new growing yard.  I found this Aloe which will clearly be a large aloe, and guessed it might be Aloe barberai or Aloe bainesii.  Even if its something else it was hard to pass up.  Any thoughts on what species?

If I was to guess, I would say it looks a lot like aloe bainseii. The color is throwing me off though. And the fact that your aloe appears to be very healthy otherwise (no browning tips or discoloration). Aloe bainseii does change color quite a bit when they are transplanted, just not sure if they change a completely different color altogether. Either way it looks like it is going to be a really cool looking aloe tree if it’s not one of the above.

At this point that is what I'm running with or any one of it's other names: Aloe barberae or the new genus name "Aloidendron" barberae.  I decided not to put it in the ground, but keep it in a pot for a few more years... perhaps one of my sons will have a home with a garden someday that I can "donate" it to?

That's a nice looking Aloe, and clearly a stem aloe. Destined to be big! I used to have quite a few aloes years ago.

Larry Shone in wet and sunny north-east England!  Zone9 ish

Yes I know.  The Aloe Hercules (barbarae x dichotoma) below is 8 years from a 1 gallon pot, so smaller than my new one when I put it in the ground.  I don't think that straight Aloe barbarae will grow as fast (especially not in a pot), but it will definitely has the same top end potential from what I have seen.

Kept this one in the same pot since I planted it up.  I think my early guess of Aloidendron barberae were off, but I like the drooping leaflets.
