Hi Palm growners! My little Coccothrinax Argentata has a new frond that looks all dried out and papyrus. I read that if the center is dead, the plant is toast. Here's a picture taken today. For information, it was planted 2 years ago.

Is all hope lost?

While it isn't pretty, I was having a difficult time determining the extent of the damage.  Perhaps an even more close up shot of the heart of the palm, where the damaged frond is emerging might generate some additional feedback.  Did the palm have something drop on the newly emerging frond, or any other trauma's you can share?

Give the yellow centre spear a gentle pull and see if it comes out. If so you'd better pour some hydrogen peroxide in the hole left by the rotted spear. The rest of the plants looks pretty healthy so all might not be lost.

Good advice....this has worked for many of us here on PT.

Neil,

Thank you. I would never have thought to do that. The yellow spear came out. I poured in some hydrogen peroxide.

Misty fog this morning here gives the plant a dew covered look..

No frond drop or other trauma (well Irma did give it a shake), just this latest spear all yellow and dried out.
