Is there any advantage to removing a palm inflorescence from a younger palm? Will it help it put energy into more leaves and trunk, or will removing it just encourage more energy into producing more flowers?

I take them off if I don't want seeds. without doing double-blind controlled studies, I think that leaves more energy for the plant.

It is recommended with young citrus to do that.

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.

Removing the inflorescence will allow the palm to devote resources to growth in other areas. I do it on all palms I don't want dropping seeds in my yard. Most palms flower only during one season not year round.

It makes sense for single specimens of a dioecious palm like a Trachycarpus or a Bismarckia unless there are other similar sized specimens in close proximity.
