Absolute spectacular - all the best with your baby! It looks strong - it will do well!

Just one thing: I don`t know what soil you are using, but a certain amount of pure sand mixed in would be good. (Just my two cents.)

Best  regards -

Lars

Lars I just built a sand box for my daughter this weekend. Will playsand work?

Should do, I would say! Looking at cocos nucifera photos in habitat, they do well in pure sand, no nutrition rich

soil needed. I am no botanist but I think that it is all about fast draining soil, a too fine and soft one might hinder

the roots (and the plant) in their development - in plain words: it might not "breath" well.

Just to give an - or two - examples:

img125.thumb.jpg.1f425fdee897c6bf6efd166

A very young one in Samoa - I scanned that image in from a photo negative I took almost twenty years ago - ...

img048.thumb.jpg.7be5550b9b8d3dd41a15e15

same place a few meters away - nothing but sand but heavily loaded - but, and there is a big BUT:

img040.thumb.jpg.016014687241e95a8d461ef

a swamp area with a lot of cows and the coconut palms like fine, too!

Keeping these images in mind I usually put my coconut palms in more sand like soil but add "cow-based fertilizer" from time to time and I have got no

problems so far. But as I mentioned, I am no botanist or biologist at all, may be some of the real pros like @Mr. Coconut Palm or @Zeeth might chime in and

provide some pieces of their extraordinary knowledge about this species.

I hope this will be helpful for the moment,

best regards from Okinawa -

Lars

I would use pure sand and add some cow based Fertilizer every year a when it starts to get warm in spring and you can leave the cocos outside.

Plays and should be fine but make sure to clean it or put it in the oven or else you will get these little sand fleas or mites and then they would be in your home.

Depending on how close you are to a lake you can always just pick up some sand from there and clean it.

My latest update. A tad of burn on the fronds but pushing and it’s fifth spear has started today.

Looking good. Is there a reason why you trimmed off some leaves?

My bad. I'm on my cell. Can't see the details very well. Since you mentioned it's on its 5th spear and I only saw three leaves. Looking very green.

No problem. Bad lighting the fifth spear is tiny and can only see up close but I realize how crazy a coco is to have. But it has been a blast and maybe someday it will thrive

Friends and plant growers up here think this is great. We are lucky that the zones are warming and we have hot humid summers. The coco has responded very well to an anti transpirant called wilt pruf. Which does a great job protecting it when it gets dry or chilly and dry

It's looking really good! I'm enjoying watching this Canadian coconut powering along, what a great effort to have it looking this good.

I recently decided to try growing a coconut palm so right now I am in day 3 of the soaking stage, long way to go. I live on Vancouver Island Canada   Think  there are major hurdles to overcome. I have  One 14 ft windmill palm in backyard and have 15 windmill seeds germinating. first one broke  the surface. Things are underway
