Iguanura elegans from seed

John in Andalucia

Recommended Posts

These are undoubtedly the cutest little seedlings I've ever sprouted; with random colour too!

I'm keeping them in a humidity box, but hope to acclimatise them as house plants, however complex that may be. (A homemade terrarium has always been on my 'to-do' list.)

Feel free to show yours here, with any observations...

Well, you're doing better than I am as far as getting seed to germinate. Could be my seed just wasn't viable yet.

Of course I am fortunate to be able to run up the hill and pick up what I need from local growers.

Well done, hope they flourish for you. I'll snap some photos and post. Spectacular little palms.

Such a great palm. I just got one for the garden and have a few seeds.

Thanks, Tim. The seeds came from an eBay seller in Thailand, whom I've purchased from before. 5 /10 seeds sprouted, surface sown at mid-to-high 80's F.

Nice score. It'll make for some nice ground coverage around your property!

Here are a couple of photos from the garden. These are Iguanura wallichiana, (pinnate leaves), and I. wallichiana var. major.

Nice specimen John.

I love this genus but haven't had much luck keeping species alive more than a few weeks or months. Longest lived was an I. wallichiana v major that made it over a year before carking.

That's too bad Meg, such nice little palms. I will admit that they are a bit finicky, even here in East Hawaii. Trying to get the sun exposure and moisture just right really affects how good these look at any given time.

John, I wonder if Bill got the tags mixed up. Here's what I got as I polymorpha. Looks like crap and I need to get this one in the ground.

Superb shot, Tim.

I know I shouldn't be attempting these over here, but it's like the attraction of the fairground stalls - you simply have to have a go! I'll update in due course.

Thanks John! I agree, give it a go. Not everything survives here as well.
