5G Brahea Aculeata & Bismarckia

Recommended Posts

I have a few Brahea Aculeata and Silver Bismarckia that will be too big to ship in a few months.  All of these Bismarckia experienced 22 multiple times inside the cold frame and suffered zero damage.  These seeds are from (were shipped) the most silver population at the highest altitude in Madagascar. THEY ARE NOT GROWN FROM USA BISMARCKIA SEEDS.  The plants that we planted outside experience zero leaf damage at 19-20F while the Arenga Engleri beside them completely burned.

B. Aculeata - $26.50 (THIS PLANT IS NOT California certified with soil.  Must be bare rooted to CA)

Bismarckia - $48 and is California certified.

I purchased a gallon-sized B. aculeata from Joe last year and planted it late in the summer.  Suffered significant damage from a low of 17F with 36 hrs below freezing without protection but has come roaring back. These are tough palms. Planted one of the Bismarcks this summer as well.  It is a nice silver.  From my experience, Joe's plants are well grown and packaged/shipped.

I have a fairly larger B Aculeata ( 3-4 ft trunk), its survived 14.5F,  this year barely, while covered in an half inch of sleet and freezing rain. On its third new leaf of the season in Texas. a little Faster than B Amarta/Clara, but not nearly as cold hardy. has silver shine on underside of leaves.

Great for texas 8 and the southwest for sure.

Bismarkias are my die back perennials, not in a good spot with shade and bad clay so never enough trunk to get growing point too far out of ground. They act like a silver minor here. They were trunk cut and wow they lived.
