I have a large flowering D. Baronii in my yard. There is some discoloration and a soft spot on one of the trunks as shown.  I believe this is due to the sprinkler water hitting the trunk.   I’ve added a barrier to prevent this from happening.  Has anyone seen this?  I appreciate any recommendations on care for the this palm.

Thanks
Dan

It sounds like you have identified your problem and taken steps to prevent additional damage from the sprinkler.  If it's soft and you have some rot occurring, I'm not aware of anything you can do to reverse it on the trunk with the best case that it doesn't spread.  I'll be interested to hear if anyone has any ideas to treat the soft spot but I don't expect such a pleasant surprise.  Good luck!

I would cut out the affected bit with a knife and sharpened spoon then spray with fungicide.

It will look odd but I don't know what else that you can do, except ignore it.

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.

I also have this going on. It’s strange because it malformed and in both trunks.

Any thoughts
