Good Saturday afternoon all!

I have a fairly large Screw Pine in my front yard - approx. 20' in height - and I have had thoughts about pruning it and am seeking input from the brain trust here before I commence operations. ;)

We have had two hurricanes in a row and before we get the next one, I want to be proactive on reducing any potential branch carnage.

I'm also wondering if a little judicious thinning would improve her looks.

When I prune Ligustrum trees....I generally follow the rule of thumb to only prune branches that grow vertically - not horizontal, and wonder if that same principle could also apply with my Pandanus. I guess it would depend on desired outcome.

In the pics you will see the base of one lower branch that came down during Hurricane Matthew and left a huge hole in her backside (no pun intended), so I know this is something that could happen again.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts....cheers!  :)
