I have had colocasia esculenta v black beauty (not black magic) and alocasia california growing in my zone 7a garden in MD since spring.  Both tags from the big box store say each of these are hardy in zone 7 (but not zone 6).  I was planning  to let them desiccate and then mulch with about 1 foot of oak leaves.  Has anyone had success overwintering elephant ears in zone 7 by mulching? most everything I've read online thinks these plants are only zone 8 hardy.  Thanks

Should come back fine with a thick mulch. I used to live in zone 7a and mine always came back.

Los Angeles, CA and Myrtle Beach, SC.
