Currently 12c at 10.00am heading for a cold 16c. They predicted Perth would have a warmer and drier winter than normal, so far it's been much colder and wetter than normal so they're way off with that. Not to worry, not everything has gone against us

It is forecast to get much warmer again though as the week progresses, and it is waaaaaaay warmer than Los Angeles for example. In fact London absolutely roasts LA for temperatures this month on average by like 3-4C / 8F.

I also still think the end of the month will be warm. I agree that there will be another period of cooler temps, but it will soon likely warm up after that. It's definitely not looking like endless low pressure.

I think it’s pretty much certain the end of June/beginning of July is gonna be much cooler now it may not be to wet down here but as the weather will be coming off the Atlantic it will be very cloudy

Yeah, they totally messed up on their predictions. We will go past 200mm of rain for June today. It’s not quite 11C at 11.30am with waves of squalls, high winds and small hail. It was a crazy windy and hail filled night lastnight, with snow on the Stirlings. Real mucky weather and it’s probably gonna stay like this for a few days more. Got the wood fire cranking

Mate Perth is over 200mm so far for the month which is fantastic, but with still a week and a half of June to go we're possibly on track to break the all time june record of 252mm, I'm getting excited! I hope it happens,  there's every chance with more rain predicted. I know the cockies are all walking around with smiles on they're faces. It's been very cold though, can do without that, it's 3 15pm currently and the last I heard on the radio it was only 13c

Max of 29.1C / 84F here on Thursday.

Still staying pretty warm until the start of next week at least, with temps in the 30’s C / 85F+ over the weekend. Uncertainty over the extent of the breakdown, but it won’t last. Likely staying warm, but cooler than late with an increased rain/storm risk.

It seems the first ‘tropical’ nights are incoming too over the weekend…

Currently 27.2C / 80F here at 1pm today. I’m expecting about 28-29C / 82-84F again though.

Yesterday we finally got some rain!!! 🙏⛈️ Even though it poured only shortly. There were several thunderstorm throughout the day. Yesterdays high was only around 26°C but very humid. Today we're back with 30°C and sunny, dry plus slightly windy weather. Perfect! 🌴🥰

Yeah I remember from having lived most of my life in Perth a day below 14C is a very rare thing. I remember a dreary day in the early 2000s the temp didn’t get above 12C and we thought “what had the world come too”  Down here those sort of temps are as common as muck. 
250mm plus for June in Perth would be an achievement. Especially considering the very dry Jan to May period. Your rain only really kicked in in the last few weeks. Down here we had heavy rains and thunderstorms in March (normally a drier kind of month), April we got about 120mm of rain (double the average), May was drier than average and now a wet June. It certainly is wetter than this time last year. I was looking at where I set up the outdoor fires and frost fans last year around the beginning of July. I sat out there one cold night and cooked my steak on the fire. That area is squelchy with about 3-5cm of standing water now. I wouldn’t want to run electrical cables and power boards out there now. Hopefully with so much drenched ground and the high water levels, the heat energy stored in the water may just keep any frost away if a clear still night caused by a high parked over us.

A nice ( ...for the end of June ) 102F at 12:47PM.. Likely tack on a degree or 3 before 5:00.  Jump up tomorrow to flirting w/ 110F territory, then hang between 107-111F thru the week ..before another jump into the 100-Teens by next weekend ...If the forecast holds / doesn't keep being indecisive..  ( ...Just get on with it already, lol )

Overall, it is looking like the locked up as of late pattern over the Southwest / West  may be about to change a bit.. We'll see for how long though..



Subtropical High that has been parked over Mexico, and S. / Cen. TX looks to try and nose it's way west / northwest over the next week.  Everyone west of here who has been quite heat starved so far this spring / summer? looks like the persistent " June Gloom " will be moderating ( ...or flipping, dramatically ..in some parts of the state at least  -if some of the hotter model " thoughts " for California over the next 10-15 days turn into things ( Ahem, ..pan out )

Then again, GFS ...is a MESS,  ....and don't have all that much faith in forecast thoughts beyond 3 days from it..

That said,  one thing that might help convince the overall pattern across the west that yes,  it is indeed Summer?  East Pac. may be waking up  ...-finally-  ( We should have had -at least- one disturbance form and try to progress through the basin by now ) 




This could give both the Subtropical / 4 corners a good kick, and also send the persistent trough set up off CA all spring packing for Alaska..  We'll see..

It, and at least another possible storm  ( -suggested reliably by the GFS ( go figure ) the last several days ) could also pump more warm water up the Gulf of CA.  ....Which gets us closer to that magic number that should at least increase moisture.  We'll see what that leads to later, if anything..

Gulf looks alright atm, but could use a good kick or two to more boost coverage of 27C / 27C+ temps in the N. Gulf..   Again, We'll see..  More heat as the 4 corners high edges west / northwest thru the week should also help warm things up down there.




Now to get the Thunderstorm Machine cranking over the Sierra Madre Occidental / daily buildups over the mountains down near the border /  around Tucson..

Unbelievably, northern Scotland observed a ‘tropical night’ last night with temperatures not dropping below 20C / 68F.

 

It is going to be a hot one today with the temperature currently at 29.7C / 85F at 11am here. Expecting a maximum of about 34C / 94F later this afternoon.

A Sizzlin' Sunday around state 48... While it backs off a little at times thru about mid-week, Heat is the theme for the final week of June/ opening day of July..



Some numbers from today  { As of 4: 47PM }  from around town, and down in Tucson.. Hotter tomorrow area-wide.. In a somewhat unusual set up, areas to the south and southeast are running somewhat hotter than here in / around Phoenix..  For now anyway.  That will likely change by next weekend when the 4 corners High makes a more noticeable push north and west over the area. Current forecast calls for a couple days in the 112-114F range.. We'll see if those suggested highs for the opening days of July don't get bumped up a deg or two by Thursday or Friday..

While it likely won't get as hot as it will here -at this point anyway- in CA, everyone across the Golden State should feel it heating up too by that time..

Looking south..  As mentioned yesterday,  in noted in the Tucson NWS Forecast discussions both yesterday and today ( Always more informative than a majority of those from Phoenix' NWS office ),  ...and as can be seen on this afternoon's COD True Color Satellite imagery,   Moisture is starting to increase across Sinaloa and the Sierra Madre Occidental in Sonora.. Looking more active down there this week, w/ hints of moisture / a few widely scattered storms straying north of the border. 

Still looking like a tropical system will develop somewhere off the S.W coast of Mexico sometime this week as well ..which should import some additional moisture into S. Sonora / the Sierra Madre as well later.

Getting there ...A few steps at a time, each day... 







While wildfire activity across AZ has thankfully been fairly mellow so far, plenty of fire activity in Mexico. While not heavy or dense locally, some of the smoke from those fires ( Sonora, Chihuahuas, and Sinaloa esp ) has been wafting north over AZ at times over the last couple days    ..a very vague, but obvious sign that some changes are in the air.. 



First temp. check in for the season from around Sonora / Baja Sur today,  just for the heck of it.  Hot Hot Hot in Hermosillo atm..

Max of 31.8C / 89F here yesterday. Slightly higher in the centre of Guildford.

My June rainfall stands at 6mm / 0.23 inches. Some places nearby have likely had no rainfall whatsoever since 12th May, which is almost 50 days now. There are active fires still in and around my county. You can see just how dry the conditions are below near Longmoor where a fire was extinguished yesterday.

Much cooler and possibly wetter in the coming days. Still warmer than San Diego and LA this week though.

Looks like we're getting a bit of a cool down the upcoming days but this morning I measured a low of 25.1°C, not at the wall, in the garden! The wall had 28 something. This must be the warmest night so far this year and is an exceptionally warm low for us here. Especially considering we "only" had a high of 33.7°C that day. 😨

Perth in areas got into the minus C territory this morning. It was going the same way down here until the cloud came back before sunrise. It got down to 2.4C under clear skies until the clouds returned and the temp rebounded to 6C at daybreak. 
Rainfall is at 260mm for June, double the average. It’s drenched around here.

All day today has hovered between 82 and 88 with a dewpoint now of 82 and a heat index of 109.  Wind off the gulf of mexico for a month now and summer is getting hotter.  Rain is on the low side too and not improving. I cant imagine if the water wasnt there to cool things down

Hot, but pretty nice for June 28th in the low desert..  Crankin it up a few notches for the weekend / 4th.  Stayin dry, awaiting, watching some storms roaming far S.E. AZ ... locally at least, for the time being. We'll see if it actually gets as hot as suggested.. Day to day temp forecast has not been very reliable ( Thx in part to the weird pattern this month / spring )



Nice surge of moisture out of N. Mexico overnight leading to some storms across the far S.E. corner of AZ / Boot Heel of S.W. N.M. today..  Maybe we'll see some debris clouds slip further north and west from that activity later. 'Nother opportunity for storms down there ..maybe,  if they're lucky..  some nice buildups over the Catalinas / Rincons east of Tucson tomorrow,  before a low passing over N. Nevada and Utah once again shunts all moisture east out of the region. ugg!    Hey overall Wx pattern.. Quit with the dry southwesterlys already!!

Can see the Cirrus shield of Tropical Storm Adrian working it's way west below Baja Sur on this afternoons True Color COD satellite imagery as well.. No local effects expected from it ( passing too far to the south ), though dew points could rise a bit across central and S. AZ  for a day or two toward the end of the week if a weak Gulf Surge is produced as it passes.. Should help better moisture pooled over S. Mexico start working it's way up the Sierra Madre Occidental.  As you can see, atm, moisture currently over the mountains just to our south is pretty anemic.. Some storms forming there each day, yes, but more isolated / short-lived than the big long - lived storm complexes we should be seeing firing up down there right now.. That may change ..fingers crossed.. starting next week. Clear and oddly quite dry over the Gulf of Mexico atm too.  Yucatan looking stormy though.




Another disturbance situated to the southeast of Adrian should also help get the ball rolling across Mexico as it develops / progresses west / Northwest.   May get just close enough to the mouth of the Gulf ( of CA ) to induce a decent Gulf Surge sometime over the weekend or early next week,  ....if it hangs together,  and doesn't wind up getting squeezed over the mountains near Puerto Vallarta  ...if it passes over that area of Mexico ( some GFS runs suggesting such a scenario ). Others keep it ( ..would be Beatriz if it attains tropical storm status ) over the Pacific as it passes that area.  We'll see..





Gulf of CA temp check: 28c isotherm starting to show up along the north shore of the Gulf,  26C isotherm filling in more. Bet the water off La Paz is quite nice atm..   ..Gettin' there.



On an interesting side note: It is June 28th, and still awaiting hearing the first Cicadas of the season..  🤔

I’m concerned about this Saturday and Sunday morning for me. Clear skies under a high. If it’s a neg 1C to 0C it’s sort of ok. Once it gets lower than that then things could get hurt.

I expect a couple of really cold nights up here over the weekend too, lovely days around 19c bright and sunny but with that comes some nasty lows.

Max of 26.7C / 78F on Wednesday after a nighttime low of 18.4C / 65F. The days have turned much cooler now, but nights are also milder due to cloud cover.

 

Some rain has finally arrived overnight. The monthly total is now up to 9mm / 0.35 inches. The forecast for the next 10-14 days doesn’t look great though - a northern (cold) airflow from the arctic and unsettled, overcast conditions. Nothing too cold, but still not the ideal way to start July and mid-summer. 22-24C / 72-75F temps.

Really? Lows of 20°C occur regularly when days are hot here. Though historically rather rare. Despite a high of only 25.5°C, we had a low of 19.8°C this morning.

The last time it was below 60f was on the 14th.  The BBC forecast seems to have made a massive error. It looks like the cooler weather will end around July the 9th.  40c temps also aren't far away from the uk shown on the gfs models.

Two mornings of west wind off the gulf and lows of 82 has changed to an east wind overnight and a low of 72.  Heat index yesterday hit some numbers im not sure are accurate, but it read a heat index of 119 at one point.  I believe it to some extent and im very nervous for the people that work outside going into the rest of summer.

Dodged a bullet last night under a powerful high. The low was 0.3C with ice on the car, and the start of ice on the exposed sheep paddocks in the area, but only just the beginning of ice on very exposed sections on one bit of lawn within the garden. Everything was just moist from the dew but not crunchy. No ice anywhere near the canopy of trees. 
 

Got another bullet coming tonight and tomorrow morning. 😐

I'm surprised Albany gets so cold considering its latitude and costal location.  As over here 35N would be the same latitude as Morocco (zone 11a). The nights also seem pretty cool in the summer as even here nights over 20c aren't uncommon in the summer.

It’s because there is nothing but ocean between Albany and the Antarctic. There’s no land to heat up and dry out. There’s all of Europe to the north of Morocco and we know how hot that’s getting lately. A northerly wind in Morocco in summer would still carry a fair bit of heat too it. A southerly wind in Albany in summer is always moist and cool. It’s a weird place down here that’s for sure.

BBC forecasts were screwed or had some kind of cyber attack. It was showing highs of 8C for me here and lows of 6C which would be January temperatures pretty much. I even saw 47C maxes and 45C minimums with rain too for the Manchester area. Very bizarre.

 

Best stick to the Met Office for accuracy. However it is clear we are entering a below average period for the next 7 days or so. Looks like the coldest start to a July in a decade I think. Generally staying pretty dry for southern regions however. Some parts of north London are on 0.4mm / 0.01 inches of rain for this summer so far. I'm on 10mm / 0.39 inches here.

A toasty Saturday in play today as we start July...  Heat is the theme  for the extended holiday weekend, and week ahead.. 

Heat warnings in effect area / region- wide until -at least- Tuesday.  Toasty across California  ...for the next few days at least... as well.   Stay hydrated, off trails during the hottest parts of the day ( Several are closed here anyway now that we're in " warning " status ) and be especially mindful while celebrating w/ fireworks this weekend / on the 4th itself.. 


We'll see how " tame " the heat is over the next few days..  113-114 as suggested by the current forecast,  vs. actually hitting 116-118F here.  Usually do the upper 100-Teens once or twice / yr.. so.. Nuthin' too far outside the envelope on the way..  A check on that later..





As far as relief?   As mentioned before,  the " We gotta bake,  before it rains "  step is underway...   Check, for sure..




Looking at the current COD true color Sat. imagery as we start July,   we can see several good signs,  even if moisture trying to work it's way north across Sonora continues to get shunted east over TX from Mexico for now :






We've gone from a somewhat late start to the E. Pac. Hurricane season, to 2 back to back Hurricanes ( Adrian = now downgraded to Tropical Storm status, other tearing itself apart as it scraped the mountains south of Puerto Vallarta last night. Circulation now heads towards Cabo = Beatriz )   in less than a week down there, possibility of more activity developing this week??.. Check

Moisture Pool across South, and Southwestern Mexico itself is starting to look better,  Check


Gulf of CA. SSTs continuing a slow- ish, but steady climb,  Check



Storms inching closer to the AZ. / N.M. / Mex. border / possibility of some build ups over the mountains here in AZ over the coming week,   and overall storm activity looking more robust over the Sierra Madre Occidental / S. Sonora each day? ( note the 10 day forecast for Alamos, Sonora ( *** Centro station in Alamos itself.  Not the other station used for Alamos, located at the Intnl. Airport in Ciudad Obregon *** ). consistent rain chances in their forecast = likelyhood of rain chances starting to inch up across -at least-  S. / S. E. AZ in roughly 7 to 10 days  )  ...2 more checked boxes




Now,  the last domino, the 4 corners high getting into " go time "  position,  needs to come down, ...and stay down.   ....🤔

That process may unfold this coming week w/  some shallow, low level Gulf Surge activity being directed into Cen / So. AZ roughly mid week, bringing a brief, but noticeable rise in both Dew Point and Pwat values w/ it,  and debris clouds passing over head at times / building north out of Mexico starting around the same time as the high settling in over the west now slides more east / southeast of central AZ  mid to late next week,  ...if recent forecast suggestions hold of course..     No matter what, appears heat is here to stay, which is good, even if it means melting a bit, lol.
