Looking like there are significant differences between the temperatures in my area.  The warmest spot on the map is the Sugarcane station and Lakeland Linder airport of all places.

The vast bulk are lakes, but some of them are man-made and not that deep.

Our warmest day of the year so far was yesterday. Way too early for this kind of heat (and no rain).

After a brief cool down to start the week, 73-76F on a nice late  Wednesday afternoon around Chandler and the East Valley.  BIG warm up as we finish out the week with highs adding 10-12 deg tomorrow, another jump of 2-5 deg on Friday. Very possible some of the neighborhood Wx stations will see their first 90/90+ readings of the year tomorrow and/ or ( more likely ) Friday. First taste of late spring heat doesn't stick around long though...

Lots of mixed signals for next week, might see more showers Sunday or Monday, might miss us entirely.. Bigger storm may move through around mid-week, or pass well to the north. Regardless, none of them look cold. Highs stay in the mid 70s - around 80F. Lows, at least what is forecast atm, may stay in the 50s all of next week. With the arrival of un-official spring, the clock starts ticking on how long our "nice season" lasts before the first 100s of the long summer ahead settle in.  Not yet seeing any clear signals on how normal, or above average the summer ahead might be..  We'll cross that bridge later..

That would be like seeing 28C on August 28th here at exact same latitude in Southern Hemisphere.  Would be off the scale.  Did see 23.0C the first week in September 2 years ago and that was a record.

Yea, should be fine.. watch it though.  Believe it or not but damage can spread from the leaf stalk to the branch tips.. have had it happen a couple times w/ some of mine. Once rot starts in the tips, it can spread down the stems/ rot the entire plant quite rapidly. Was one reason i made the decision to take off 95% of any foliage that remain on all mine after mid- November each year. Even so, ( and without any cold damage ) Lost one of my favorites i'd just picked up this past summer,  and a purple-flowered cultivar that had been struggling since last winter ( got too wet while cold ).  Once the leaves fall off ( or, if you go ahead and decide to remove them in a few days. Leave about 1/2-1" of the leafstalk attached to the stem if you do )  you can always stuff paper towels in something like those plastic red party cups and put them over the tips for cold/frost  protection if there's another cold spell. Hopefully this will be the only time it gets that cold, let alone drop to 32F there this winter.

An update on the frost damage to my Plumeria. Looks like a few of the branches are showing rot. I'm guessing the best bet is to trim them back and seal them with pruning sealer?

Yep, cut damaged stems down to clean green wood ( no signs of brownish discoloration in the tissue ).  Seal with powdered Sulphur which should be available at any local Nursery.  You want the cuts to heal but breathe. Sealants can trap moisture and cause more issues. The cut branch should throw out at least a couple new stems from dormant growth points below the cut. With temps generally getting warmer now, cuts should heal faster.

Okay good to know! I'll try to see if I can find some powdered sulphur and get to cutting. Most of the stems are fine and are starting to leaf out now that we have warmer temps but looks like we have a good amount of rain coming next week.

The air temp is 63F and rising. My south facing backyard is turning out to be quite the micro climate, as far as daytime in concerned. I have this in the shade back there.

It's been an upside down year here in California. We've been far drier then our neighbors in SoCal, as well. Since this post I've had several days above 75°/25C.

Downtown Chandler hit 89 yesterday, 90, at least for half an hour today.. Lots more 85-89F readings on the map today but no one topped 90 for more than say 15 minutes at a time..

Agree, about perfect.. especially with it cooling off nicely overnight.  Noticing dormant stuff around the yard starting to leaf out.

After 3 back to back days in the mid/upper 80s, hovering around 70F atm, on the way to the mid 70s today as some showers pass well to the south, and we await what looks like a wet week ahead, something you don't see too often here, especially in March..

Depending on how long this storm lingers, current thinking is we could see 1.0-1.75" of rain between Tuesday/ Thursday-Friday here in the Valley.. 2-5" in the foothills/ mountains. Since moisture for this storm will originate near/south of Hawaii, no ..or very little.. snow for the high country anywhere in the state. Totals could change of course, but have trended upward since Friday.. Temps stay warm-ish, 69-79F the entire week.

Snapshot of the forecast here in Chandler from our local NWS for the week..  With temps staying warm, rain should really help anything starting to push spring growth atm.

Quick update.. Looks like forecast rainfall totals thru Friday have been increased for the area.. Could see totals in the 1.50-2.25" range, vs the earlier suggestion of 1.25-1.75".

After reaching the upper 70s/low 80s earlier this afternoon, back down to around 74-76F as clouds quickly increase..  If you're in town for some of the Spring Training events scheduled for this week, good luck, and have your umbrellas in hand.. if that game hasn't already been.. or ends up re-scheduled.  Another faster moving storm possible next week as well..

Been watching this leg of the storm all afternoon hoping the northern end would make it up your way since it seemed the first half missed most spots northwest of Central AZ. Agree, what storms have moved through Phoenix have been quick and pretty feisty at times.

Also kept an eye across So. Cal, which seemed to take the brunt of this round. Still waiting to see if any of the activity to my west reaches us.. Looked pretty ominous at times this afternoon and was certainly humid/ warm enough to get something big going if it had cleared up a bit faster earlier in the afternoon but have only had a few quick showers today at the house. Whether overhead or further away, ( out on the west side of the valley atm ) always cool to see any amount of lightning this time of year.

Keep the umbrellas handy, looks lik more rain next week.. with more possible after that.. Pretty unusual for mid/late March, at least here. on the + side, everything is green..

Love watching a good storm roll through. This leg didn’t last more than an hour or so, but I tried to get it on video. It was very wet so I didn’t go to far from the wall haha. Came in with a punch.

:greenthumb:  Did the same thing not long after i'd posted last night.. Kept seeing flashes just as i was falling asleep. Got up and it was pouring. Heaviest rains lasted maybe an hour but wind knocked over several flowering Agave planted across the street, and dumped dozens of old left over leaf stalk bases from the Washingtonia r's in the street island out into our street again.  Not a good time of day either since one of the street lights nearby has been out and people like to speed up and down the street that late at night. Looks like no one from the city has been out to clean up whats left in some of the lanes atm. At least they were blown away from this side of the road / house this time lol..

Might get a little more rain today before a break between storms over the weekend/ beginning of next week.

Did you report it? Most places rely on a complaint in residential areas to send the light fixer. Here they usually do it the next regular workday when I submit a notification to the power company.

Not this time, yet.. The one that is out sits across the street, next to the neighborhood bus stop.  Last year, the two closest street lights on our side went out around the same time. Called it in twice. City took about 5 weeks to come out and install new lamps. Odd since this is a very busy road.

Out of the blue we get December weather.  Hovering in the upper 30's and it snowed for hours, easily the most snow this winter, and one of our coldest days.  Fortunately it all melted upon contact but entirely unexpected this late in the year.

We were around 60F all week and hitting this rough patch this weekend and then back up to 60F again.

First 70’s of the year here, finally. Since January we haven’t been able to get past 68°F.

Sabals, Trachys, and Butia have been on the move, slow growth but impressive for March. Might begin fertilizing by the end of the month, weeks earlier than I usually would. The mild winter has everything else in the area a full month ahead of schedule.

Missed out on today's round of rain/ storms which managed to stay just west and north of this side of town. Nice warm up ahead for the weekend, 71 tomorrow, 77-79 Sunday/ Monday. Might have to make a trip somewhere to see how this years wildflowers are turning out.

Regardless, a nice snap shot of turbid, late afternoon skies as the last big shower slid southwest to northeast just west of Chandler.. Lots of flooding and a Funnel cloud spotted in other parts of the Valley earlier today..

With a few exceptions, have to agree w/ you. There's pretty much something different to see anywhere you are in the state.  Such differences can be quite dramatic the further south you go and which season

Depending on the time of year, if you ventured to some place close to the Mexico / New Mexico Border, during the night, not already familiar w/ the region, say in late winter,  you'd think you'd  ended up somewhere out in the High Plains of Eastern New Mexico. In summer, especially during an especially wet Monsoon year, the landscape resembles more semi-tropical parts of Sonora  just south of the border, than cactus covered " Arizona "

Even on a more local scale, using monsoon season as a good example,  while Phoenix is certainly greener when we get rain, i wasn't anticipating how dramatically different things looked when i made a couple trips down to Tucson that time of year.. For one, even before getting close to town, you could tell who had received more rain so far that summer. Air smelled humid and everything was vibrant green..  Driving toward my destination, ( same direction as the west face of the Catalina Mountains ), i almost stopped in my tracks just to take in what i was seeing.. The mountains, which are already a sight to see any time of year, were about as lush and green as California gets after a warm, wet winter/spring.. I've seen some pretty incredible things but was blown away this time.. And that was during a drier monsoon season..

About the only thing AZ's landscape lacks, a beach..
