Maybe a chance of showers on Wednesday.  Otherwise, the ascent into Spring continues.

I’m getting smashed here again tonight!!! Currently -2.6C / 27F at 1am. This area is crap. Like utter crap. I have to move ASAP! Even central London is running 6C / 11F warmer than me here tonight. Many parts of Cornwall are 8-9C / 17F warmer than here. The difference is immense! We have a significant cold polar vortex event going on right now however as well.

The Isles of Scilly have now gone well over 5 years since the last frost there in 2018. The lowest it has gone over the past 5 years appears to be 2C / 36F during the January 2021 freeze event, although no frost was actually registered back then. Tonight they run 9-10C / 19F warmer than my location.

Oh man that sucks. I know you live in a cold pocket but tbh it's also unseasonably cold in general at the moment. If I was in your shoes and I had the rescources I would probably also move. Especially because you don't have to move that far to already be in a much better climate. Living by the sea sounds also very nice. But still this winter was quite sh... bad and as I've understood those temperatures are very unsual to your location? It also might feel much worse because we had that very bad freeze so early in December and that took away any tolerance and backings for any following bad winter weather. The heat waves in between made it even worse imo - with plants getting to grow to then get drawn into frosty nights again. It also feels quite bad because now at the beginning of spring we're getting such a deep winter weather into mid- March. I'm currently at 2°C here so I won't complain too much but this cold season is also starting to annoy me. But we're almost out of it I guess (I hope). :greenthumb:

10.30am currently 27c heading for 31c. Although we're into Autumn now Summer was unusual as it was only the third time in thirty years where Perth didn't record at least one day of 40c or above.

@UK_PalmsThe polar vortexs are definitely annoying this winter. For the past few days there has been a massive split in the winds Paris was 15c one day whilst London was only 6c. Ventnor and especially cornwall seem to be on the edge of the split so they are getting winds off the ocean rather than from the north. There are a couple forecasts suggesting up to 19c for the end of March however that all depends on the winds. The wind forecast is currently showing a few days with winds from Maderia and the Mediterranean. The polar Jetstream seems to be extremely unstable at the moment. @HortulanusEven here I'm fed up of the cold spells and cloud. The Jetstream needs to sort itself out! It's also just typical that it was cloudy all day, and now it's clear skies all night, then by morning it turns back to cloud. Currently 3c. Cornwall is also lucky to have cloud cover tonight.

I had spear pull on a T. princeps today f*s! My Eucalyptus gunnii has damage! It's incredible. It hasn't even been cold enough to harm those extremely hardy plants but the constant rain followed by frosts and extreme warm ups just tortured even the most hardy plants. Yet I'm still surprised because some plants like a small P. canariensis (with fleece protection) or my W. filifera (unprotected) are still looking O.K. considering the state of other plants like a T. princeps for example. Even my B. odorata looks still fabulousI I really hope there are not going to be any more damages showing up late in the other plants. Even Fatsia japonica looks like crap...

Today's been sunny all day with a high of 8°C and a low of just above freezing in the morning. Rain is already on the radar again and should arrive around midnight. At least it's getting warmer. 17°C predicted for Monday. And everything is possible in March. In the past we already had summer temperatures in March.

Max of 10c/50f yesterday in London. It was also fairly sunny in the morning. It's currently 7c at 1am, but the temperature should rise to around 10c by 7am. The high tomorrow is supposed to be 15c since we have winds coming from Maderia, unfortunately not clear skies though otherwise the temperature would probably have been 17c+.

Some interesting weather in the canary island tonight as well. It looks like a hot air mass has come in from the Sahara so the temperature above sea level is as high as 80f with 12% humidity compared to 65f with 88% humidity at sea level. It also looks like it will be 90f tomorrow there.

10.5ºC / 51ºF here just now, which is lovely for a March morning.  The cold week finished very abruptly yesterday, with a high of 13.2ºC / 56ºF.  The cold spell included four nights below freezing, with the lowest -2.0ºC (28ºF) occurring twice.  I was amazed to see how much snow they had in Sheffield, about 30 miles east of me, whereas I had none here.  It did snow, but never stuck to the ground. The four nights below freezing were quite late in the season (though not unheard of) and compares with a total of 8 nights below freezing in the entire winter of 2021-2022.  This winter I've already had 27 nights below freezing, more than triple last winter!

14°C at 9 p.m.. Today's high was almost 20°C in my garden (19.3°C) and 18 at the airport weather station. Very nice spring day and I also noticed how much spring is already on despite the cold March we had so far. Trees are starting to form leaves and many are blooming. I also noticed how many things including palms have already grown but that might have happened during the warm spells in winter. Unfortunately I had another spear pull on small TRACHYCARPUS FORTUNEI!!! I can't believe it. The minimums haven't even been low enough to damage them but the ups and downs with exceptionally warm days, rain and following frosts made all of the plants suffer. I did some plantings today up into the dark. Still nice outside. ☀️🌴:greenthumb:

After a low of 52f last night, it was 60f with 66% humidity in London today with lots of cloud. It was also very windy all day. Tomorrow will be cooler, however it should be more sunny. The rest of the week will be around average for this time of the year. Whilst February was very dry, so far March has been humid and rainy so far, at least it will push back when the wildfires start by a few weeks.

Drippy and humid 60F atm..  Maybe an interesting evening ahead later..

Isolated storm development starting to show up to the northwest over Nevada, and to the west in CA as we head into the afternoon is a a good sign for storms here later, if they hold together / associated areas of instability make it this far east by sundown / shortly afterwards..

Currently 13C / 55F here. This has been the coldest start to a spring since 1899 going by the CET temperature series. The first week of March was especially cold. Hopefully it will warm up next week.

Many places are still in drought here, despite having rain over the past week or so. It is just nowhere near enough to replenish the deficit as we approach the ‘dry’ period.

The river flows are worrying low with many places in danger zones. The river Waveney in East Anglia is at 18% of its normal capacity.

0C8B0C59-D789-4B2C-A86D-E6C129E88AF5.thumb.jpeg.7b8e2d79390c9d8327eb3f1846518e57.jpeg

We are running out of water here and will find ourselves in a similar situation to Southern California at this rate. Although SoCal has had nearly 10 x as much rainfall as southern England this year already. If we have another hot/dry summer again, which we probably will, we are going to be in big trouble. Winter rainfall has been erratic and insufficient over the past 2 winters now too. Nowhere near enough to replenish the losses during the drier period from April - September.

Lightning strikes have triggered more fires here. One of which I could see on my way to work just outside of Guildford. Ireland is also being hit by the fires still too.

The high today in London was 60f/15.5c with 62% humidity. Despite being fairly cloudy all day the max UV was a 3 today. The temperature at 7am was 50f/10c and it was drizzling last night. The forecast looks ok for next week but very cloudy. We are currently way below the average sunshine hours for March.

After a wet and stormy Wednesday / Wednesday Eve, a nice opening to the weekend ahead, complete with some Hawaii-esque skies at times ( occasional, quick convective showers ) Clearing out as i speak ..err, write..

Perfect weekend ahead for St Paddy's Day and other local/ regional festivities,  then maybe another reasonable cool down / showers sometime next week..

279912115_Screenshot2023-03-16at17-31-10ChandlerAZ10-DayWeatherForecastWeatherUnderground.png.7d07d5b84785eb410aee2a8ad33a43ee.png

A special treat, a couple pictures of an uncommon look to the skies this time of year. Has an area of " general" heavy showers / occasional thunder roll through before a more summer-like storm ( strength-wise ) formed on the backside of the main line, then proceeded to skirt the south end of Chandler.. As active as the lightning activity was as it approached, activity quickly died off as this cell crossed the area..

Despite trying to outwit a dying battery, and some quick hitting showers trying to get in the way before the main show, managed to grab a couple decent shots as this storm approached.. In the first shot, ...a 13sec capture, can see how quickly these showers / storms were moving as they approached.

It was fairly cloudy in London today, however  around 3pm it became less cloudy so the high was able to reach 17c/62.6f with 57% humidity. Currently the sunshine hours for March is way below average, hopefully we can get a few more sunny days towards the end of the month. The forecast for the next 2 weeks is very hard to predict, every weather forecast is suggesting completely different temperatures. The southern winds here seem to be mixing with winds coming of the Atlantic, hence why unfortunately the temperatures don't seem to be as high as they currently are in Germany.

Today has been a bit less nice but after this long winter I won't complain. A high of 15.7°C with cloudy and sunny phases throughout the day.

Currently 10c/50f in London at 11.40pm, it looks like the weather will be in the mid 50s to high 50s possibly low 60s for the rest of the week. Something else interesting, a 6ft sand tiger shark was was found yesterday in Hampshire which is a very rare shark to be seen in the UK especially at this time of the year.
