So I am giving a new seed germination method a try. I have a bunch of Sabal minor seeds and I had a few little plastic bowls that had soup in them. I am using the containers to try and germinate the Sabal minor seeds. I filled them up with moist orchid moss and simply scattered the Sabal monor seeds on top and closed the lid and set it on a heat pad. I just opened it up to see how warm it is inside, the orchid moss is just warm, not hot, but warm. I have germinated Sabal minor seeds before at room tempature so I do not believe the tempature will be an issue. Anyway, here it is. I hope it works. Anyone else do this?

I've seen others use this method with good results.  The only thing that matters is that it produces results for you. :)

That's the same method I've used successfully for years. And for Trachycarpus, Ceroxylon, Parajubea, etc, you just don't need the bottom heat, but the germination medium is the same. I've got Satakentia germinating that way right now. :winkie:

Same over here - this is my favorite method since I started with palms.

During the winter I am using a heat mat, too - but then I have to check the moist level of the peat moss to avoid mold or drying out.

Some seeds are more sensible - others are not, but usually I get at least a few sprouts.

Best regards -

Lars
