Hi Ricky,

It's hard to tell what your palms are from the photos, but whatever they are, they have a nice silver color and are nice palms. One is sure blooming early too.  Unusual.

I have 5 BXJ planted out. One of them is silver like this and has the leaflets more in V shape. My  greener hybrids have ´´flatter´´ fronds (more open angle of the leafllets: not a ´´V``)

Carambeí, 2nd tableland of the State Paraná , south Brazil.

Alt:1030m. Native palms: Queen, B. eriospatha, B. microspadix, Allagoptera leucocalyx , A.campestris, Geonoma schottiana, Trithrinax acanthocoma. Subtr. climate, some frosty nights. No dry season. August: driest month. Rain:1700mm

I am seeking for cold hardy palms!

Hi, Ricky:

I've seen such fibers on Jubaea, JubaeaXButia, [JXB]XB, and

[(JXB)XB]XB, and BX(JXB), and on Butia eriospathe.  Haven't any experience with ButiaXJubaea itself.

In any case, they are very attractive.  Are they as vigorous as they appear?

Howdy, Ricky,

Photos are usually a bit deceptive but the palm on the right sure screams Jubea with the shape of the trunk.

Best regards,

Ed

Alberto, Merrill , Dick ,etc,

I shot a few photos of the leaves last time I was out in CA.

We have had plenty of commentary the last few years on morphology of Jubea. This drove to me to look at different characteristics on Jubeas in CA.

Note closeup photos of leaves, how do these compare with yours? Alberto.

I will repost the z pattern of leaves too.

Merrill I see very heavy fiber on the Butiax Jubea I bought from you a number of years ago.

Best regards to all.

Ed

QUOTING ED BROWN III

Merrill I see very heavy fiber on the Butiax Jubea I bought from you a number of years ago. END QUOTE

Hi Ed:

Thanks for posting those shots of the hooks on Jubaea fronds.

My personal experience has been that I've seen many more of those hooks on Butia which really had very little chance of Jubaea forbears than I have seen on my known JXB mixtures.

I've coveted a BXJ for years without satisfaction; don't see how I could have given you a BXJ; more likely a [JXB]XB.  I say this because  my  covetousness was due to the grace of BXJ,  but the closest I have is B[JXB] from FTG J. pollen on my Butia.  My apologies if I'm guilty of mislabelling!  Best Wishes, merrill

Sorry Merrill,

I wasnt specific enough, I obtained several from you over the years, I reckon these were the (JxB)xB.

About 10-12 years ago, I totally gave up on trying to grown Jubea in FLorida and started building up raised beds  like I do for citrus and fruit trees. and This is one of those lots as the others died from high water table.

You see some latent Jubea characteristics in it ( not the #of stamens)-- it is robust and stout but not like the one Ricky posted

Best regards,

Ed
