A friend of mine called me over to see this thing he thought was fasciculata until it started flowering. It's not clustering and the metallic-red color is truly spectacular! Huge too... Interested in what it might be-thanks in advance.

T. utriculata. Florida native, some can get BIG! BUT....unfortunately it's a monocarpic species.

UTRICULATA?! Never seen one with red on the inflorescence-I am very familiar with this species-we even have a variation in my neighborhood that is smaller than the average utriculata but clusters. Pringlei is the name. But all are nothing as colorful as the one above. I am guessing you have seen this color variation before? I bow to your better judgement, albeit surprised...
