I bought a tree a couple years back that was supposed to be a Rainbow Eucalyptus. Although I'm having my doubts. Can anyone ID?

Looks like it. Give it time. Takes a while to start "deglupting".

It's always fun to witness the birth of a neologism.

Dude, stick by me and we'll rule the New Age of Linguistics! My bestest neologism is 'gooder'.  When you ask how someone is and they say 'I'm good...and you?', just say 'I'm gooder'. Blows 'em outta the water every time, guaranteed.

Seriously,  I'm more "gooder" than you!  Boom!

enigma99 - These are photos of a tree I planted in Spain 10 years ago.

The trunk should be grey and smooth, not brown and 'flecked' like yours. There should be tiny knots and protrusions visible on the young trunk too.

Here's a view of the same tree 2 years later, at 4 years of age.

A lucky purchase of 2 kg (4.5 lb) of seed from the Forestry Commission of PNG meant that I used to cultivate E. deglupta and sell seeds globally.

Sorry I can't be more helpful with an ID for your Eucalyptus!

Agree with John it is not a deglupta, mine had a smooth grey truck when young as well. Sorry.

Agree. Not deglupta, I'm sorry to say. :mellow2:

Here is mine around that size. Also, deglupta should always have some degree of red leaves at the end of the branches.

Thanks for all your comments. Bummer, I bought a fake delgupta. It’s getting torn out today...

Any ideas where to reliably buy a real one?

I think  @Josh-O had some for sale in 5g size in the for sale section. Someone else did as well but I don't recall who it was.

I grow them from seed. once they are around 3-4' tall you can make sure its the real deal. when you buy them small they van look like any other euc IMO.Their are a some folks that sell fakes on e-bay from time to time unfortunately.
