The wild Sabal palmetto of Hilton Head Island

Sabal palmetto is one of the four native palms in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Here on Hilton Head Island, it grows in abundance in the maritime forest and beach dunes.

Great photos @NC_Palms.  HHI is one of the great southern locales....I have only been there a few times but absolutely loved the area.

I went back to Hilton Head today. I wanted to get out before the hurricane comes

I love Hilton Head Island! There are so many wild palms, and some really neat palms can grow there that won't grow a few miles inland. Check out Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge if you ever get the chance, it is amazing!

Thanks! I haven’t been to Pinckney Island yet but I hope to get over there before Dorian hits.
