Hi

I am posting quite a few pics of bananas here along with with my palms. The reason being that in Zone 7, you don't have a huge selection of palms to work with. So for a tropical landscape in your yard you have to plant other types of plants.

I hope it's ok.

My masterpiece and if I had to keep only one specimen in my yard it would be this one. Trachycarpus fortunei that I grew from a seed myself.

Picture of the bottom trunk with a smaller T. fortunei growing there. Did a seed from the big one fell and grew? Or do they sucker? If someone knows, please tell me.

Musa ornata flowering, that was last year. It flowers every year but not this year, I wonder why?

Sabal minor I bought years back at a plant fair in Tampa-FL- It has always survived but not thrived. It has had scale for 2 years now that does not kill it. It keeps pushing new leaves yearly and producing seeds. I treated the scale the last 2 years without success, so I stopped. I think it might not be happy in my zone 7 yard as it probably was a zone 9 plant when I purchased it.

2 young Sabal minor which I grew from seed. The seeds were from Tennessee and they are happily growing in my yard.

My second large Musa basjoo in my front yard.

Musa sikkimensis. It was real small for years, and this year it really took off.

Yard10.jpg.54c678156150c1d88946a0fffb8c87a2.jpg

I am going to add either Serenoa repens or Chamaerops humilis next year in a well protected location of my house.

Thanks for looking

Nothing is more beautiful than a banana tree - except a bunch of 'em! Those clumps are magnificent!

@Hardypalms

Always nice to see some plantings from an area that is often overlooked.  The Sabal minor you got down here was probably field dug from somewhere in Central FL.  That variant is probably not as happy as one from the Weiss Lake area of Alabama, southern Arkansas, or the McCurtain variety.  Your Rhapidophyllum is gorgeous as are your Trachycarpus!  Keep up the good work!

Looking good. :greenthumb: I treat scale on citrus by using cotton swabs with rubbing alcohol.  Physically wiping and removing them.  Should be easy with just a couple of big fronds on the minor.

Nice plants!  The smaller palm must be a volunteer seedling (sorry but I had to get a Tennessee reference in there!) from the bigger palm since Trachycarpus fortunei aren't suckering palms.
