Glad to see them doing well! I imagine those will prove to be quite hardy when they get planted. The parents of those two showed no signs of cold damage after the cold snap in 2021.

Both were planted in 2019, I'll try to find a pic of them both together right after they were planted

Here's a few end of season photos of the Livistona Decora. It is really starting to put on size

They don't put on height at the same rate but in my experience Sylvesters (or whatever Hybrid this is) recover foliage about as fast as washies. This was almost completely defoliated after this past winter

That one was a roll of the dice purchase. I had a washy on backorder and the nursery offered me that Phoenix in its place. 4 years later here we are 🤙

Coming into November and she's still pushing growth. Promise one of these days I'll update on some of my other palms 😂

I was going to say the same thing.  Looks great and they'll keep putting out growth longer than many would think.  This really isn't a bad time to plant more palms in many areas either.

By the way, looks like Carl's Jr. is winning the battle vs. Hardee's.  Seems like another Hardee's disappears East of the Mississippi every day.

I got that one from Evergreen here in town; it was sold as robusta and def looks to be. If you can't find one up your way, come spring big box and a handful of nurseries here in myrtle will have various travel friendly sizes

Abreojos and Sylvester looking strong following the cold snap

I know it's still early on but I'm really surprised with how well the foliage held up on the abreojos now that we're starting to see consistently warmer temps during the day. It's still looking very green whereas some of my mules, Phoenix, and washy all have noticeable browning. I didn't protect it at all this season. Here's a pic of it vs the dac x roeb hybrid taken this week.

Update on the abreojos queen. The foliage has shown no signs of cold damage and we've seen a good bit of warm weather over the past month or so. The newest spear just pushed out some gnarly stuff but I'm really surprised this past winter didn't piss it off more. Can't remember what the ultimate low was (18 or 19F) but it took it like a champ with no protection.

Sited near the queen are some giant bird of paradise as well as Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum. They were both zapped to the ground but are coming back pretty strong

And since it seems like I'm getting away with stuff in this area of my yard I'm giving a majesty palm a shot. I may protect it, I may not we'll see. More of a microclimate experiment than anything

I'm trying a couple of Heliconias - a red and a pink one.  The person I bought them from grows them in the ground here in Houston (Zone 9B).  They told me if we get a bad frost or real cold they get zapped but are root hardy.  They also said they will flower in the second year.  So if a little protection on the few coldest nights could go a long way.  You might want to try some in your jungle.  I know Plant Delights Nursery has Heliconia schiedeana listed as hardy to zone 8B.  Probably more of a zone 9 plant.

Planning to get some, the foliage looks nice and so do the flowers. Im also getting the large hawaiian fragrant spider lilies, ordering off ebay.

This queen leaning mule is looking pretty ratty coming into spring/ summer this year. Luckily I didn't have to trunk cut it again but the foliage is showing signs of distress and it had some rot down in the growing point that it ended up pushing out. Surprisingly my abreojos queen handled this past winter better than this mule.
