Do yours get "giant"?  Mine make it to about 7'-8", then get frozen to the ground each winter.  I haven't been particularly impressed.  They also send out long runners and pop up like 10' apart.

The tallest mine got before it got zapped to the ground was around 15'. If we hadn't gotten such a bad winters I think it would have gotten over 20'. Here's a few pics of it before the freezing rain 2 winters ago. Was a really gorgeous plant, unfortunately it didn't survive the winter. 

Yea they definitely like to travel. I haven't seen a new runner this spring but I'm sure there's one waiting to make itself known haha

Cleaned up the yucca cane a bit yesterday. It looks pretty good considering the winter we just had

The loquat leaves will burn in the lower teens. Loquats are able to withstand temperatures below 15oF, but any zone below 8A will need protection. The colder temperatures can cause damage that weakens the tree and allows pathogens to attack. Most of my trees survived the '21 freeze of below 0oF, but I don't know if they will survive long term because of the damage.

Where'd you get this Abreojos Queen and what is the difference compared to a normal Queen? I tried to look up some info on it but can't find anything.

Ok so this is an outcome I was not expecting. My little Uruguay queen (no mature fronds) did not handle our Christmas gift of low teens very well. Initially I thought it was good but it went downhill fast in January and eventually spear pulled. So I did what I normally do and cut it back to where I felt comfortable, gave it some peroxide, and tried to keep it dry. Well over the past few months it did nothing and I figured it was dead. Tonight I went out with my flashlight and took a look at it and what the hell do you know, I saw what looked like green down in the hole. So I took a pair of scissors and low and behold, this little sob still has fight in it. Wild. The base of it is maybe an inch in diameter.

Didn't even know this mule had any cold damage until it started pushing new growth. This one is about 20 feet from the one I had to trunk cut

I think fungus was bad this year because the cold was so early and severe it gave the fungus plenty of time to do damage.

I agree…I used copper fungicide often this winter…I think I may have dodged that bullet to a large degree…mostly the freeze damaged and dead fronds…

I'm surprised this one didn't get zapped back to the ground with how cold we got. I have one in a pot that I left out all winter and it came back from where it left off last year

I cut her back in March. Once the summer heat kicked in I been leaving the hose on a slow trickle

I planted two in my yard - sourced them locally from Perry (a palmtalker here in Central CA). They are pretty, but so far looks like a regular queen. There is a lot of variation within the species - I've seen really plumose individuals, others that are shuttlecocked, and some that are just bigger than normal, so I think this Abreojos is just a queen with good genes. And hopefully the genes get passed on to its offspring. Here is my larger Abreojos.
