Ensete Glaucum sources?

Merlyn

Recommended Posts

In addition to my palm and cycad obsession, I have collected a whole bunch of different bananas (figuratively and literally).  I have Thai Black, Goldfinger, Ice Cream, Saba, Kandarian, Bordelon, Namwah, Mekong Giant, Sumatrana xCross, Little Prince, several random red variegated and quite a few Ensete Maurellii.  But I haven't been able to find anything but seeds of Ensete Glaucum.  I've bought most of these from AgriStarts tissue culture growers like Wellspring Gardens and Green Earth.  Some of the tissue culture ones are insanely slow to get growing, my Saba took 6 months to grow from 6" tall to 12" tall, and then exploded to 10 feet tall in the last 2 months.  Most of the other tissue cultures have done the same.

So I'd kind of like to start with a partially grown seedling instead of trying to sprout from seeds, unless they germinate fast and grow fast from seeds.  The only place i have found is "Urban Tropicals" for $40 shipped.  Does anyone know of another god source, or should I buy seeds and germinate my own?

I have grown Ensete Glaucum from seed twice, germination is low but they grow really fast. The first time I got 2 out of 10 and the second time 6 out of 25 seeds germinated, All of them sprouted within 2 weeks. This is one of mine that I grew last year, it was 7 months old in this picture when I had to dig it up for the winter since I live in Ohio. I bought my seeds off of Ebay.

I have a few thousand glacuum seeds and seedlings at any given time.

If you've got some seedlings currently I would like to come pick up a few this weekend if possible. Please pm me if yall will be at the nursery and if I can stop by to grab them.
