Morning walk on campus (JCU, Cairns). I Risked my life to bring y’all these photos: I surprised a snake and was bitten by every fly and mosquito at the university :-)

Does anyone know what’s up with the yellow flowers that look like they’re coming out of the palm seedling?

It's called Palm Grass, although it's neither a palm nor a grass, Molineria capitulata. It's native to South East Asia through to Queensland and the Northern Territory.

Kew has it as Curculigo capitulata, but the Council of Heads of Australian Herbaria have that as a synonym of Molineria capitulata. The plant family is Hypoxidaceae.
