Chambeyronia macrocarpa New Red Leaf Time Lapse

Nothing can brighten your day than a new red leaf opening on a Chambeyronia macrocarpa, even a small one. I planted the little palm in the following photos on the western side of the house in spring 2018.  It struggled against the brutal FL sun as the king palms over it provided skimpy canopy. I surrounded it with container plants to shield it. But come this fall it has adapted and no longer needs constant protection. About a week ago it opened an intensely red new leaf and I recorded the process in daily photos.

Chambeyronia macrocarpa excellent

I have one from Ft Myers.  Do you have any pictures of the emerging frond as a spear ?  I would like to see the color pattern.  Mine has yet to open and has grown slowly in my sunroom in southern Pennsylvania.

A newly emerging, unopened spear is usually green. The color intensifies as it opens, then fades back to green. Tiny seedlings show little or no color until they grow larger.

I took these about a week apart as I remember, last summer.

We have 2 Chambeyronia Macrocarpa  and 2 Chambeyronia Hookeri from 6 to 8 years old on our property in Lakewood Ca an they are my favorites. Always look forward to watching the new palm fronds open.

pics from last week

First two pics are the same Hookeri, planted on the north side of our house and it opens with a bright red frond.

3rd and 4th pics are another Hookeri planted in the middle of our backyard under two larger Dypsis  Lepocheilost  and one large Caryota Urens. It opens with a burgundy color frond .

5th pic is a Chambeyronia Macrocarpa and it opens in a bright red frond . Planted in the South East corner of our yard.

6th pic is another Chambeyronia Macrocarpa. Opens with a Burgundy frond and is planted with a garage on the south side of it and our house on the north side of it.
