I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Don't know how I missed this back in 07.

Wow, great setup.

What's wrong w/your water that you need such a filtering system?

The mains water here is extremely hard Steve. After you boil water from the tap a few times, the sides of the kettle have a nasty white chalky residue, this much calcium and minerals ends up doing real damage to sensitive palms. Dypsis Hawaiian Punch for example will have brown tips 1/3 way up all the leaflets. Palms that don't mind the salts end up with a "dishwater spotting" effect on all their leaves that is unappealing. All this mess is horrifically alkaline and as you know many of the plants we lust after prefer acidic or slightly acidic condition. That's why all the trouble with the filtration.

All that blah blah just to prove one more reason why April and I need to move to Hawaii to grow stuff! :winkie:
