Sabal lougheediana, a new palm species

After the discovery of Sabal antillensis in 2017 every single specimen was documented in detail on both Bonaire and Curacao Islands.  These observations were compared to the studies in 1979 and it was found that the population on Bonaire had significant differences to the one on Curacao thus leading to the finding of a new species.

I hope seeds of both species will become available for these endangered Sabals.

So theoretically it has been about 4+- years since this Species of Sabal was discovered.

Has anyone came across ANY type of information on this Sabal Antillensis from 2020-2021 thus far into 2021...????

There's some at Montgomery Botanical garden. Not sure if they're planted yet though. There's a Sabal antillensis planted at a public botanical garden elsewhere in Florida, but I won't say where until it's a bit bigger to avoid theft. It looks like a standard Sabal at this point, however.

Sabal lougheediana leaves remind me of filifera leaves but with stiffer ends, They look fuzzy.

Pretty cool! :greenthumb:B)

I actually have a Sabal lougheediana in my collection. It's still small. I'm sorry I don't have a better picture of it right now. As it's still a seedling it doesn't look much different from any other Sabal imo. I can only imagine that they are pretty frost tender. It has seen temperatures around freezing in this pot though, No damage.

Amy update on the growth of these yet?

Subscribe to my YouTube here  to follow along my Sabal obsession....  Quite possibly one of the biggest Sabal plantings in the US.

I have to check as it is burried somewhere between all of my seedling palms. I planned to repot it this summer, but haven't got to it yet. I hope I'll think about it and then I'll post an update.
