I don't know if this has ever been brought up, but what do u guys think of cell phone towers disguised as palm trees. They look pretty fake to me. I even saw one off the 605 fwy near Downey, CA that had a fake skirt of dead leaves; they were trying to make it look like a washingtonia. I think what makes it worse is that they will put a cell tower and then surround it with newly planted mature palm trees; however, they never blend in well with the tower and look even more tacky.

Sometimes, they look healthier than the other trees around them. Our extreme temps really cook most vegetation in June and July.(currently 110 degrees daily,80's overnight,5-10% humidity)

I saw one on the 101 freeway between Ventura and Oxnard.  It was styled as a Phoenix canariensis.  IMO it looked much better than the plain ones.  Wish we had some here in the SF Bay area.

They add the fake skirt of dead leafs to hide the antennas. Everybody wants cellphones and wirerless access but no ones wants to see an ugly tower. There are many ways to "hide" the towers and / or antennas. Usually this is at the request of the local comunities.

Tower companies and cellphone operators will be more then happy to comply with the wishes of the locals.

i am trying to disguise this tower, but they keep adding sections to it! I kinda like them, better than just a plain old tower! give them a little credit! a for effort if you will.

THe palm ones do look tacky, but imagine how tacky they'd look in, say Minneapolis?

On the Sexy Freeway near the City of Industry, there's a tower on the south side of the freeway that's supposed to look like a redwood tree!  I giggle every time I see, yeah, I know, I amuse easily, but still, THAT'S tacky.

I've seen a few, one close to home looks like a new and undescribed pine tree. The other one I saw in Colombia and resembled a Ceroxylon, down in the tropical elevations! It looked kind of cool.
