Buddha's belly bamboo. Bambusa something-or-other.

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.

Yep Buddha Belly Bamboo.. Likely the "Wamin" variant, which tends to stay smaller than the typical form of the species..

Easy, and really attractive.. esp the dwarf type. ( supposedly only reaches 16ft. Tall type reaches 50ft ) It also produces more " bellies" than the tall form.

The true Buddhas Belly Bamboo is Bambusa ventricosa. When it it is kept rootbound it remains dwarf with swollen internodes. If it is planted the new culms that emerge eventually develop into non dwarfed form and it makes a clump 40-50ft tall.

The plant in the photo is Bambusa vulgaris 'Wamin', Swollen Timber Bamboo. It only grows 10-12ft and keeps the swollen nodes on the culms.
