I planted two Hyophorbe spindle x bottle palms about 4 year ago, growing well but both look like spindles. There is a difference though in the colour of the rachis. One is golden yellow and the other is lime green. What have I got do you think.

Plant one, yellow rachis:

Spindles, no lagenicaulis in there, the rachis would curve back on its self more and the butt would be stout plus to much foliage

I hope to be wrong but your palm seems to me to be an pure Hyophorbe vershafeltii with nothing of H. lagenicallis on it.- I say this for my little experience growing many seedlings and small palms of both species.-

Yet, it´s a beautifull palm.

Yeh, I don't mind them not being the hybrid because they are growing wonderfully.

The bottle x spindle hybrids are supposed to grow faster than either species, have you noticed this at all?  That would probably help with the ID.

Do you know if it was purchased as an F1 or F2?

F1 eleven I think  :D

I don't know the 'F' doovy coding, must have missed that, but I can tell ye that they grow quite fast but that's just because I'm a great gardener.  :)

We have no doubts that you have skills :D

But, have you grown either species as comparison?

F1 would be a seedling from a mother spindle and father bottle, or mom bottle + dad spindle

F2 would be a mature F1 pollinated by either another F1 or a species to strengthen those traits, that's when it starts getting more complicated

What about the colour differences I showed/mentioned, doesn't anyone give an F1 or 2 about that ?
