lipstick palm Lipstick Palms Repotting Work - March 2020

Dear Friends,

Just bought 3 Lipstick palms from a nearby local nursery for $43/- Of which 2 are normal sized while the other is not tall but bushy with lots of pups in it. Visuals will follow in the next post. On earlier occasions i have bought these palms but i failed to keep them alive. Trying this once again. This time iam repotting these plams in cocopeat with some vermicompost,SeaWeed granules and one teaspoon of slow release fertilizer from nutricoat per pot which is 12inches in size.

Now let see the 3rd Palm,The Fat Guy! I have not repotted it yet.Just to see how the other 2 repotted palms are doing in the coming weeks.And from the month of April to September end its hot summer season for us.

BTW here is the visual of that 3rd palm..And the stem colour in this perticular palm is not red enough but its more orangish colour.Don't know if its a hybrid or was it staying more in the shade area of that nursery ? Clear visuals of that while i do its repotting work.

They're lovely palms. Are you going to put them in a tray of water. I would imagine they would love that in your climate being an equatorial swamp palm.

It seems to work! Thanks very much of that timely suggestion...Have i knew this trick before,i would have saved the previous 3 palms which dried during summer since i used to water then only alternate days fearing that daily water would lead to fungus infection.

That's great Kris.

I remember walking through Singapore Botanic Gardens many years ago and seeing the Cyrtostachys (which are native to that area) planted in the side margins of one of the lakes there in the boggy areas growing with water ferns and they looked like they were very happy.  Just like a pig in mud.
