Nice setup!  If you like big bananas look for an Ice Cream banana (10-18' and rapid growth and pupping), Saba (15-25' and slower), Kandarian (25-40' and slow).  For a nice color splash Bordelon (10-15' fast clustering) is good, and Thai Black is 10' and really pretty!

Coming together quite nicely!  My personal favorite on the bananas is Ice Cream.

Might just be the style there... but you could plant 100’s of palms on that block. You don’t need grass :) Nice video.

In Florida, it is typical for new construction neighborhoods At this price point (400k) to clear cut everything and then provide a “builders landscape package” to meet local ordinances for tree removal. In my case, I was given three options. I chose the option that included a Sylvester palm since that was the most expensive of the trees they offered. I knew I would end up removing most of the remainder of their landscape package.

Also, for those who noticed the flags I put down in the backyard, stay tuned.

Wow.  Anywhere in the Toronto area the landscape package consists of grass or grass.

St. Augustine Floratam is provided as sod in neighborhoods here where the builder installs irrigation.

In neighborhoods without irrigation, they use Pensacola Bahia.

Very nice NickJames! So different from my jungle with all the weed free grass, no monster vines and lovely curved beds.  Nice house too!

Enjoy and post more as they grow and you give in to temptation and add even more palms...

Nice palms!  Here in Texas the builders will plant grass in the front and maybe the sides but leave the backyard as is (weeds).  And they'll plant 2 live oaks and perhaps substitute one of the oaks for another non-palm native species (never mind that we have 3 native Sabals).  But maybe it's different in the $400k+ neighborhoods...  :P

I’m a REALTOR and I’ve never seen a new construction house in Florida not come with a fully sodded lot. My first new construction home in Jacksonville was $118k and had full Bahia sod. Since Bahia is a native grass, they didn’t run irrigation.

My lot required two live oaks, which are considered the legacy trees of Daytona Beach. I feel safe telling fellow palm lovers that the live oaks are somewhere in the Volusia County landfill.

That's good that you get the whole yard sodded there.  The last house I had built came with 1/4 acre.  When I ordered the Zoysia sod I believe it came out to 18 or 19 pallets of which the builder paid for 6.    The lot had many mature trees (instant canopy) so no additional trees were added until I planted my palms!

It’s a lot of work to keep up. I think my lot is .2 acres but 1200 sq ft of that is taken up by the house footprint obviously. Can’t wait for pavers and more palms! I don’t really like many native non-palm trees except for maybe magnolias. I back up to Tiger Bay State Forest which is essentially all long leaf pine and saw palmetto. It was wiped out during a firestorm in the 1990s so the new pine trees are still fairly young.

Those are some big Areca pots!  I've added some sea grapes to a sunny spot near my garage, they are at least marginally hardy in 9B.  I haven't tried Clusia yet.  There's a fairly large Ficus Lyrata along my bike route, I've been thinking about planting one just to see how it does here.

Do you have an HOA there? If so, they’re cool with planting this much? I ask because I live in one of the more notorious HOAs in Tampa and kind of wondering what my own boundaries are. lol

Yes, I have an HOA. I have a submittal that includes my pavers that is pending approval. My philosophy is always if it looks good, nobody cares. My neighborhood is developed controlled and will be for quite some time (possibly a very very long time if the housing market tanks due to the virus) so there aren’t people patrolling it per se. When it’s turned over, I’ll run For office anyways.

They approved a very, very large wooden playset next door.

I’m in probably the best phase possible. I live on a pond that adjoins the Tiger Bay State Forest. I’m on a culdesac that is basically as far away from the amenity center (not yet opened, postponed due to virus actually) so I anticipate very little in the way of traffic on my side of Mosaic.

I’m cutting out quite a bit of sod (by hand, ugh) so the community is quite enjoying my supply of emerald green, nitrogen rich sod.

Fun fact on this photo: you can see my neighbor’s adonidia m installed last week in their yard. I told them you know it’s a bad choice for our zone if even I refuse to plant one, but they didn’t listen. Lol.

You have a coconut and a bottle in Daytona. No one is going to listen to you about hardiness zones!!! :floor:

btw, keep going; I think I can still see a little grass!
