I’ve posted these a few times. Won’t hurt to post again. They look especially good now after two years with little in the way of freezes.

The foxtail is fitting in nicely. I knew this thread would get your attention.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, these should be planted more widely in Houston. Once they get about five feet of trunk they seem able to take our worst and bounce back (with complete defoliation). It’s hard to compare them to Queens since the latter are so much more common, but my feeling is that overall they bounce back better. On the flip side, smaller specimens in my area died in the last big freeze, even a nice one with two or three feet of trunk.

I suspect it has to do with the girth of their trunk. Even with queens, it seems that the thicker trunk specimens fare better here. That’s why I would be really excited to see some trunking Beccariophoenix here.

So much for that old saying, size doesn’t matter.

No 😢. I think they were cut down too early, but the palm fatalities in our neighborhood were high. Total queen death, lots of dead Washingtonia.

Oof there were at least 4 queens that survived 2021 down here in Alvin - but they were cut down randomly since 21…. Smh lol
