This is my last drone video from our trip to Dominican Republic. It is Leonel Mera's palm collection at his ranch near Santiago. We arrived a little late in the day and we had a long drive that evening to get down to the south side of the island so we did not have a lot of time here. So unfortunately I was only able to do one flight on one side of his property. The video covers about half of his collection. There were quite a few bigger Copernicias on the other side that I did not get to film.

Very nice. I have known about Leonel and his great impact on the palm world for years and always wondered what his collection would look like. It would have been a worthy stop during the D.R. biennial for sure.

Probably was not that much to see back then as everything was much smaller. Now,there ARE some pretty good size trees to look at,along with hundreds of 1 to 3 gallon size palms randomly planted on the very hilly terrain. Here are a few stills to get a closer look at some of Leonel's palms that caught my eye.

Leonel Mera's farm will definitely give you a palm overload! So many species, too little time...

I am very thankful to both Leonel Mera and GMann for providing me this once in a lifetime experience.Danger seemed to be lurking around every corner for us, as the terrain was unforgiving to be sure, but we made it. :)

It was awesome to have you along for the trip. All of your laughing everytime the rental car hit a rock on those crazy dirt roads, that helped take some of the stress off. The car made it back to the airport, limping...
